Auktionshaus Edgar Mohrmann
The traditional house in Hamburg
Auktionshaus Edgar Mohrmann
Auktionshaus Edgar Mohrmann ranges among the oldest and most successful stamp auction houses in Germany. Among philatelic enthusiasts it is known as a guarantee of top results.
Going back more than 90 years, the success story of this auction house began with its foundation in 1929 by the Lübeck businessman Edgar Mohrmann. Appreciated far beyond Germany, Mohrmann was pre-eminent in his field. His auctions and the many important rarities he sold reached such a large audience that, in the 1960s, the German phrase of the “stamp as the share of the ordinary man” was coined. The magazine “Der Spiegel” dedicated a 12-page cover story to him in 1962.
Late in 2015, Christoph Gärtner acquired the traditional company from Hans-Peter and Christa Bahr. Subsequently, the Edgar Mohrmann Auction House, together with Auction Galleries Hamburg, formerly Schwanke GmbH, formed the C.G. Competence Center for Philately in the Far North. Since 2025, the Edgar Mohrmann Auction House, part of the C.G. Collectors World group of companies, has been headquartered in Bietigheim-Bissingen.
