Auction Galleries Hamburg

Since the 1970s, Schwanke Auctions in Hamburg has been a byword for sophisticated philately and numismatics. The auctions took place in the distinguished “Reichenhof” in Hamburg’s historic Kontorhaus district, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2015. 

In 2016, Christoph Gärtner acquired the renowned Hamburg auction house. Under the name “Auction Galleries formerly Schwanke GmbH,” the former Schwanke team continued to hold its much-noted auctions at the familiar Reichenhof venue. Together with the auction house Edgar Mohrmann, it formed the C.G. Competence Center for philatelists, collectors, and investors in Northern Germany. In 2025, Auction Galleries—by then part of the C.G. Collectors World corporate group—relocated to Bietigheim-Bissingen.
